Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris

Description

Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris

The Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral, a masterpiece of French Gothic architecture, was severely damaged by a fire in April 2019. Restoration efforts are ongoing, and although interior visits are currently not possible, the site remains a powerful symbol of resilience and heritage. Visitors can admire the stunning façade and explore the surrounding area, including Île de la Cité. Notre-Dame continues to host special events and religious services in designated areas outside the cathedral. The cathedral is set to reopen on December 7th and 8th.

Lighting a Candle

Lighting a candle is a popular act of piety, expressing thoughts or feelings that are sometimes hard to articulate. The light represents illumination, warmth, and the expression of what is important to humanity. Despite the closure, the chaplains at Notre-Dame continue this tradition by lighting candles at the foot of the Virgin Mary statue, now located at Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois (75001 Paris). You can light a candle through our dedicated online space.
