Description

The Luxembourg Gardens, in Paris's 6th arrondissement, are among the city's most beloved green spaces. Created in 1612 at the request of Marie de Medici, widow of King Henry IV, the gardens were inspired by the Florentine landscapes of her youth and designed to surround the Luxembourg Palace, which now houses the French Senate.

Covering 23 hectares, the gardens combine formal French design with informal English landscaping. You'll find manicured lawns, tree-lined alleys, over 100 statues, a charming pond for model sailboats, tennis courts, a puppet theatre, a rose garden, and the famous Medici Fountain, a shaded romantic corner beloved by photographers.

The park is not only a peaceful retreat but also a cultural venue, hosting art exhibits and classical concerts throughout the year. It's a favorite spot for locals, students, and visitors alike — a place where Parisian elegance meets daily serenity.

Fun fact: During the French Revolution, the garden was renamed “Garden of Equality.” It gradually evolved into the public park we know today.
