Dive into 850 years of Notre‑Dame’s history through a unique immersive VR experience in the heart of Paris.
Description
The Espace Notre‑Dame is a unique cultural space located beneath the parvis of Notre‑Dame Cathedral in Paris, hosting the Eternal Notre‑Dame immersive VR experience. Opened in January 2023 under Place Jean‑Paul II, this venue offers a 45‑minute full immersion into 850 years of history—from the cathedral’s medieval construction to its dramatic post‑fire restoration.
Developed in partnership with the Diocese of Paris, the public restoration authority, Orange, Emissive and Amaclio Productions, this highly scripted virtual journey features a virtual “master builder” guiding you through the pillars, vaulted ceilings and stained‑glass windows of the cathedral. Discover medieval construction techniques and iconic figures linked to the monument.
Before or after the VR session, visitors can explore exhibitions on the restoration site, featuring panels, photographs and models, located right beside the cathedral. The entrance is marked by a large wooden staircase between the Police Prefecture and the archaeological crypt.
Targeted at a broad audience—including heritage lovers, groups from age 11 upwards, families, schools and friends—the experience is available in multiple languages (French, English, Spanish, Chinese) and offers reduced rates for groups and people with disabilities.
The experience runs daily from 10 am to 8 pm (last entry one hour before closing), closed on Mondays. Online booking is highly recommended for better prices and secured time slots. Éternelle Notre-Dame
To date, over 60,000 visitors have taken part in this emotional immersive journey. All proceeds are allocated to the cathedral’s restoration fund, directly aiding its revival.
Atmosphere: serene yet moving, with audiences immersed in virtual light streaming across vaults, standing in awe before digital reconstructions of the historic monument—an educational, emotional and aesthetic journey.
Tidbits: 30% of ticket sales initially went towards restoration funding; the digital reconstruction is based on thousands of high‑resolution photographs gathered by diocesan architects.
Practical info: arrive ~10 minutes before your slot, prefer booking online, the parvis site currently lacks a working PMR elevator (contact ahead if needed), and the experience is not recommended under age 11.
